    Boundary state of superstring in open string channel

    We derive boundary state of superstring in the open string channel. It describes the superconformal field theory of open string emission and absorption by D-brane. We define the boundary state by conformal mappings from upper half plane with operators inserted at two points corresponding to the corners of semi-infinite strip. We obtain explicit oscillator forms analytically for the fermion and superconformal ghost sectors.     Boundary states in the open string channel and CFT near a corner

    We generalize the idea of boundary states to the open string channel. They describe emission and absorption of open strings in the presence of intersecting D-branes. We construct the explicit oscillator representation for the free boson and fermionic ghost. The inner product of such states describes a disk amplitude of rectangular shape and possesses modular covariance with a nontrivial conformal weight. We compare the result obtained here with those obtained using two different methods, one employing the path integral formalism and one employing the conformal anomaly. We find that all these methods give consistent results. In our method, we must be careful in our treatment of the singularity of the CFT near the corners. Specifically, we derive the correction to the conformal weight of the primary field inserted at the corner, and it gives the modular weight of the rectangle amplitude.     Continuum Coupling and Pair Correlation in Weakly Bound Deformed Nuclei

    We formulate a new Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov method applicable to weakly bound deformed nuclei using the coordinate-space Green's function technique. An emphasis is put on treatment of quasiparticle states in the continuum, on which we impose the correct boundary condition of the asymptotic out-going wave.     FTS Measurements of Submillimeter-Wave Atmospheric Opacity at Pampa la Bola III. Water Vapor, Liquid Water, and 183 GHz Water Vapor Line Opacities

    Further analysis has been made on the millimeter and submillimeter-wave (100-1600 GHz or 3 mm - 188 micron) atmospheric opacity data taken with the Fourier Transform Spectrometer (FTS) at Pampa la Bola, 4800 m above sea level in northern Chile, which is the site of the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA). Time-sequence plots of millimeter and submillimeter-wave opacities show similar variations to each other, except for during the periods with liquid water (fog or clouds) in the atmosphere. Using millimeter and submillimeter-wave opacity correlations under two conditions, which are affected and not affected by liquid water, we succeeded to separate the measured opacity into water vapor and liquid water opacity components. The water vapor opacity shows good correlation with the 183 GHz water vapor line opacity, which is also covered in the measured spectra. On the other hand, the liquid water opacity and the 183 GHz line opacity show no correlation. Since only the water vapor component is expected to affect the phase of interferometers significantly, and the submillimeter-wave opacity is less affected by the liquid water component, it may be possible to use the submillimeter-wave opacity for a phase-correction of submillimeter interferometers.Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures, PASJ, vol.55, no.1 (2003), in pres

    Brain tumors induced in rats by human adenovirus type 12

    Oncogenesis of human adenovirus type 12 in the brain of rats was examined. Newborn rats of Sprague-Dawley and Donryu&#12288;strains were injected intracranially with human adenovirus type 12.&#12288;The incidence of intracranial tumors was 91% (30/33) in SpragueDawley&#12288;and 56% (14/25) in Donryu rats. Except for one tumor nodule&#12288;located in the parietal cortex of a Sprague.Dawley rat, all tumors&#12288;developed in the paraventricular areas or in the meninges. Tumors were quite similar histologically to those induced in hamsters and&#12288;mice resembling the undifferentiated human brain tumors such as medulloblastoma,&#12288;ependymoblastoma and embryonic gliomas. From&#12288;the histological features and primary sites of tumor development, it is&#12288;suggested that the tumors in the brain of rats induced by adenovirus type 12 originate from the embryonic cells in the&#12288;paraventricular area&#12288;and also from the undifferentiated supporting cells of the peripheral&#12288;nerves in the&#12288;leptomeninges.</p

    Possible Excitonic Phase of Graphite in the Quantum Limit State

    The in-plane resistivity, Hall resistivity and magnetization of graphite were investigated in pulsed magnetic fields applied along the \textit{c}-axis. The Hall resistivity approaches zero at around 53 T where the in-plane and out-of-plane resistivities steeply decrease. The differential magnetization also shows an anomaly at around this field with a similar amplitude compared to that of de Haas-van Alphen oscillations at lower fields. This transition field appears insensitive to disorder, but reduces with doping holes. These results suggest the realization of the quantum limit states above 53 T. As a plausible explanation for the observed gapped out-of-plane conduction above 53 T, the emergence of the excitonic BCS-like state in graphite is proposed.Comment: 15 pages, 6 figures, to be published in J.
